I’m pretty handy; do I really need a licensed electrician?
Yes, you really do. Potential hazards and voided warranties aside, it’s illegal for an unlicensed person to install an EV charger.
How long will I have to wait after placing my order?
Depending on contractor availability, usually 1-2 weeks.
How long does the installation usually take?
Around 3-5 hours.
How fast will it charge my EV?
Exact speeds will vary depending on your car’s inverter, as that's the bottleneck for how much power the vehicle can take in at once. Broadly speaking, 7kW units should get a battery from 0-100% in about 8-10 hours. Faster 22kW systems can do it in about 3-5 hours. If you're plugging your car into one of our DC chargers, that'll be even faster - you could be fully charged in a matter of minutes.
Can I set a charging schedule to use off-peak electricity rates?
Absolutely! You can set up preferred charging times in the Earth EV app.
Once the charger is installed, how do I actually charge my EV?
It’s as simple as charging your phone—just plug the tether into your vehicle’s charging port. When you’re ready to go, press the Stop & Unlock button (the hand-circle symbol under the V in “EARTH EV”) and unplug the tether.
If you’ve set up an automatic charging schedule or want to customise your charging using the Earth EV app, just plug in your EV and follow the instructions in the app.
My house has solar panels, can I use them to power the Earth EV charger?
Absolutely. With CT clamps installed, your Earth EV charger intelligently monitors your solar generation and home energy use, prioritising surplus solar to charge your vehicle and minmise grid usage. Without CT clamps, the charger will still use available solar power, but it will draw from the grid when additional power is needed.
I don’t have solar panels yet, but I might in the future—can I switch over to solar later?
Planning ahead is a great idea! Just let your electrician know so they can install CT clamps when they’re installing the charger.
Can I set up a charging station and charge other people for using it?
Yes, you can! Earth EV chargers can be configured to allow others to use your charger and pay for the energy they consume, generating passive income for you. This is ideal for apartments, strata buildings, sports clubs, workplaces, hotels, shopping centres, golf courses, car parks, fleet depots, and public venues looking to recover electricity costs or create new revenue streams. Refer to our commercialisation solutions or contact us to learn more.
I’ve heard there are tax benefits for EV owners and home chargers; how does that work?
You will be able to very soon. We’ll be rolling out a software update for the Earth EV app that makes this possible—this space!
What safety certifications and features does the Earth EV charger have?
- International Electrotechnical Commission certification (IEC61851 / IEC62196 / IEC62955).
- EESS (Electrical Equipment Safety System) registration and certification.
- Certificate of Conformity for complying with all Australian safety standards.
- Regulatory Compliance Mark (RCM) for compliance with both electrical safety and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) regulations.
Australia has some of the highest electrical safety standards in the world, so going with the Aussie-approved Earth EV system is much safer than using uncertified, imported products. Our systems are safe to install and use, and the EMC compliance means they don’t cause (and are unaffected by) electromagnetic interference.
What kind of after-sales support and technical assistance do you provide?
We offer support with real people and any issues will be back by our in-house engineering, software development team. End clients can contact us directly or via electrician.
